Odor-guided flight in moths
Chemical PlumeA chemical smoke plume coming from a 1 centimeter diameter filter paper disk in 75cm/s wind (wind is blowing from right to left). This is the same type of filter paper disk that we use to dispense pheromone in our experiments. Thus, if we could see the pheromone plume that the male moths are tracking we think that they would look very much like this. |
